Loft & Lie Angle Service

Most irons leave the factory within a degree or two of spec, and most sets drift further after a season of range balls and divots. One degree of lie angle moves a 7-iron roughly four yards offline. One degree of loft is a club's worth of distance in the wedges. You can't see either one; you just see the shots.

We measure every club on a Mitchell Steelclub Angle Machine, show you the numbers, and bend to spec only when it will change how the ball flies. Walk-in or by appointment, usually done while you wait.

The starting point for anyone who hasn't had their clubs checked since they bought them. We measure the loft and lie of every iron, compare each one against the manufacturer's published spec, and hand you a printed sheet so you know exactly where your set stands.

For the one club that doesn't behave. A new wedge that needs to match your set, a replacement iron, or the 4-iron you've never trusted. We measure it, show you the number, and bend it to where it should be.

GEARS Lie Angle Fitting

$150 60 minutes · Iron set bend included

Only available in Charlotte at Velocity Golf. A lie board and a strip of tape tells you where the sole touched the mat. GEARS 3D motion capture tells you the actual angle of the clubhead at impact, measured across every swing, with no mat to lie to you. We fit your lie angles to your real delivery, then bend your set to match on the spot.

  • Dynamic lie angle measured at impact with GEARS 3D, not estimated from a lie board
  • Shaft droop and toe-down captured, so the number accounts for how your shaft actually loads
  • Fitted spec for each iron, then the full set bent in the same visit
  • Before/after shot data on the launch monitor to confirm the change
  • Includes the printed spec sheet and a copy of your GEARS report
Book a GEARS lie fitting

All bending is done on forged and cast steel heads. Some cast heads and most game-improvement irons with very wide soles can only be adjusted a limited amount; we check the head and tell you before any work starts.

Graphite-shafted irons and hybrids are measured but bent at our discretion. Drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids with adjustable hosels are not bent.

A signed service waiver is required before bending. Heads very occasionally break during adjustment; this is rare but not zero, and it is why we won't bend a club we don't think will take it.
